Hi, I’m Eric Vickrey

I'm Eric Vickrey, a published historical baseball author and contributor to the Society for American Baseball Research BioProject

I am a lifelong baseball fan with a passion for researching and writing about the history of the game. I started writing several years ago as a contributor to the Society for American Baseball Research BioProject. My first book, Runnin’ Redbirds: The World Champion 1982 St. Louis Cardinals, was published by McFarland in 2023. It chronicles the 1982 Cardinals from Whitey Herzog’s rebuild to the final out of the Fall Classic.

My second book, Season of Shattered Dreams: Postwar Baseball, the Spokane Indians, and a Tragic Bus Crash That Changed Everything, was published in April 2024 by Rowman and Littlefield. It tells the forgotten story of the 1946 Spokane Indians and the team’s tragic bus accident, which to this day is the deadliest accident in the history of American professional sports. Season of Shattered Dreams has been nominated for the 2024 CASEY Award for Best Baseball Book of the Year by Spitball.
